What exactly happens at a Model UN conference?

Schools are assigned a country, and students are put on committees with delegates from other schools/countries. Delegates prepare for conferences by learning about their countries' policies and the issue itself. They then write a paper called a "position paper." Simply stated, this paper lays out your country's position on the issues that are to be addressed at the conference. At the conference, committees go into separate meeting rooms. They establish meeting procedures based on Robert's Rules of Order and begin to discuss the issues. Many things happen in committees:
